ILS Planning
Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) is the analytical process which facilitates the development and integration of all supporting elements so that a product or system being developed or procured can be supported effectively at an optimised cost.
Through the ILS process, support elements including maintenance planning, personnel identification, support and test equipment and supply support are analysed and developed to ensure that they form an integral part of the product or system being developed or procured. Trade offs may be made between different support elements to ensure that the product or system is affordable, operable, supportable, sustainable and transportable within the limits
of the costs and resources that are available.
- Ensures that the product being developed or acquired is designed for supportability throughout its life cycle, through development and production of detailed support plans for product maintenance, supply and distribution and disposal.
- Defines the physical resource requirements of that product, through analysis of product operating requirements such as training needs (including training materials and equipment), personnel and support & test equipment recommendations.
- Develops and prepares the technical and supporting data for that product, including manuals. The end result of the analysis process ensures that the product that has been developed or acquired has been done so with its entire life cycle in mind. Furthermore, the product has a prescribed support system that is integral to the product helping ensure that it can be supported effectively until its retirement or disposal.
